CORONAVIRUS VACCINATION NEWS ***IMPORTANT***

The Coronavirus vaccination is now available to our patients aged 80 and over.  Please do not phone the surgery, we will call all the patients in this group and advise where and when the vaccination can be given.  These vaccines are administered for several surgeries within the Primary Care Network, and COVID vaccine is not supplied directly to us at Ashfield Surgery.

PLEASE NOTE:  ALL GP APPOINTMENTS REMAIN TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS ONLY, THE GP OR NURSE WILL CALL YOU AS CLOSE TO THE APPMT TIME AS POSSIBLE.  IF THE GP FEELS YOU NEED TO BE SEEN FACE TO FACE, THEY WILL MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR AN APPOINTMENT AT OUR AMBER CLINIC WITH YOU DURING THE CONSULTATION,  WEARING FULL PPE.

OUR NURSING TEAM ARE SEEING PATIENTS IN FULL PPE FOR INJECTIONS,  WOUNDCARE, BLOOD TESTS CHILDHOOD IMMS & SMEARS.  PLEASE CALL THE APPMTS LINE. REVIEW OF DIABETES AND RESPIRATORY LONG TERM CONDITIONS REMAIN TELEPHONE CONSULTATIONS.

4.  Care of your ears: Ear Syringing is used to clear ear wax from ears that is causing reduced hearing. This service will no longer be available at the surgery. We have put together an INFORMATION LEAFLET designed to help you care for your ears.

Nurses

Our nurses are all highly qualified and have a wide variety of skills and specialty qualifications.

Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement, smoking cessation, assist doctors with minor surgery, NHS Health Checks and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

The Practice Manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

Administration

The administration team provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with patient records and medical reports along with coding of all incoming correspondence onto the medical records.

Reception

The Reception team is led by our Reception Managers, Beccy & Allison.  Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for making appointments, collection of prescriptions and correspondence from main reception.  They also perform other important tasks such as new registrations, dealing with incoming and outgoing patient records, and attaching/scanning electronic hospital letters to patient medical records.

Secretaries

The secretarial team provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for medical enquiries. They carry out important tasks including referral letters, secretarial tasks for the doctors, liaising with hospitals, mental health teams and clinicians allied to the practice such as district nurses, health visitors.  The secretaries are 'buddied' to named GPs at Ashfield.

Community Midwives

Community Nurses

We have a team of attached district nurses who provide nursing care for genuinely housebound patients, and in addition run a specialised leg ulcer and vascular assessment clinic.

Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.
